Americans are forced to be unaware about the Islam religion due to the media and the main image put forth by all other religions about Islam. Because of the major terrorist attacks it is easy to find someone to blame and it always seems to lie on the "Muslims." Women are also treated bad and do not have the free reign as they do in many other religions. They have to be dressed in long, black, robes covering their entire bodies even on hot, sunny days. Americans are forced to see the "bad" things in this religion instead of pointing out the few incredible things. Most Americans are unaware and do not even know that Islam and Christianity are actually very similar in many ways. It is all about what the media has set forth for us to view.
Because of the recent terrorist attacks that have been targeted at the U.S., Americans have formulated an inaccurate view of Islam as a religion focused solely on the destruction of others. In reality though, the groups responsible for these terrorists attack are a radical group of Islam, and in no way reflect the ideology of Islam itself. Because of the time we live in though, many Americans only gather their information based on slanted television news talk shows, and are ignorant to the facts.
Most Americans have a negative image about Islam because of the negative media muslims receive due to the extreme actions they take. Though it is true that some muslims to take their religion to an extreme, it seems that that is only a very small portion of their followers, and that most muslims live their own lives, and mind their own business.
The news and media are constantly talking about the recent terrorist attacks on our country such as the main one 9/11. The media makes it seem like the entire group of Islamic people are out to get us when really only a small group of Islams are responsible and supportive of these attacks. In the middle east, the main religion is Islam and the main religion in the US is Christianity, not many people in the US know that there are several similarities between Islam and Christianity and they are more closely related then we would think.
I think that Americans are unaware about all the additional information that the media does not tell us. What we hear about Islam is all negative. Therefore we do not know about all of the positive things that happen. 9/11 made a big impact on our country so after that, almost everyone thought that Muslims were in on it and are basically all terrorists and refuse to look at any positives regarding them.
